July 2013

Every time August sees the letter A she says "that's my name".

For July 4, we went to down to Fal to spend sometime with the family. The kids enjoyed playing in the pond with their cousins.

We took the girls on a trip to Galveston. Trey was working so we stopped by the fire station to visit him before heading off to the hotel.

It was just the girls and I at the hotel until Trey arrived the next day. They had never had room service so I decided after a long day of swimming at the hotel pool we deserved some pampering. Here the girls are eating their dinner in bed.....shrimp and grilled cheese.

Not really knowing what to expect, we headed off to Moody Gardens for the day. What a fabulous facility that is there.

We still had time left in the day so we took off to Pleasure Pier. We ate at Bubba Gumps restaurant on the Pier, getting our fill of Forest Gump. The girls enjoyed riding all of the rides. All of the operators of the ride and some at the restaurant were foreign exchange students. Kennedy did get nauseous and scared on the one ride that goes in circle and forces you back into your seat.

Trey returned to work the next day, so it left the girls and I to kill sometime before heading home. We went to the La Kings Candy shop their in Galveston. Couldn't help but get an ice cream cone.

Here is Trey with his sold sign with the Putska's. We will miss them!

Kennedy went to her first day camp for one week at T BAR M in New Braunfels. Each day was a different clothing theme. She had a cowboy day, chose a color day-she chose purple, Camo day, and the final day she wore her Alpha shirt. The first day I picked her up she told me she decided to be a Christian and started to explain some of the things they learned that day. Our friend, Rhonda's daughter, Carley was also in Kennedy's group. On Friday, they did a performance for the parents. Kennedy still dances and sings the song " Bring It". We quickly signed her up for next years camp because she loved it so much.

I watched Kylie and Payton while Laura and Kenneth went to a rehearsal dinner. The girls enjoyed playing together.

Trey took the girls fishing at David Smith's place. They had a great time..Look at the big fishes they caught.

Just another day cooking!

On Friday, July 26, I was in the garage cleaning when August and I came back in the house and had several missed calls and texts. One for Jim saying "mom's had a heart attack...headed to the hospital." It's the type of news that makes you just shut your eyes and shake your head. I quickly got clothes on and August and I made our way to Austin. Trey was already in town because he had been showing a property to Melanie Knussman. Everyone was at the hospital and we learned that she had gone into Cardiac arrest, her lungs weren't getting enough oxygen causing the rest of the body to start shutting down.  Mom, was suppose to be coming to Lockhart that day to get her phone, but she had sent me a text that morning that she wouldn't be able to make it because she had to take Chelse to the hospital. They weren't back at mom's house for very long when Chelse heard Domino barking and found mom. She administered CPR until the EMS got there, which they were able to get a heartbeat back. Lee said a prayer while Tyler, Melanie, and I held her hand. She had tears running down her face. That's the last day that I feel she was actually there. Saturday night I had a dream and she was in a white flowy gown and she said "Kim", it startled me.   It wasn't until July 30, that we decide that we needed to take her off life support due to her having seizures and the result of her brain damage being severe. They couldn't get her to come too. The doctor reminded us the dnr was mom's choice not ours. She left this world very peacefully, surrounded by those that loved her most. I was so glad to have Trey their with me through it all.  Every day that passes, I think of her. Be it a smell that reminds me of her or wanting to pick up the phone to call to tell her what happened with the girls. Cherish the time you have here with the people you love...it is quickly taken away and you can't get it back. We are fortunate mom knew she was loved and that she did  live a full life. I just hate on all the things she isn't going to see or us have her experience with us.

Mrs. Zea gave the girls a book about Waterbugs and Dragonflies. Here is the story....I know see Dragonflies around me and I can't help but think of mom sending me a message.

Waterbugs and Dragonflies
by Doris Stickney.........................................

Waterbugs and Dragonflies : Explaining Death to Young Children"

Down below the surface of a quiet pond lived a little colony of water bugs. They were a happy colony, living far away from the sun. For many months they were
very busy, scurrying over the soft mud on the bottom of the pond. They did notice that every once in awhile one of their colony seemed to lose interest in going
about. Clinging to the stem of a pond lily it gradually moved out of sight and was seen no more.
"Look!" said one of the water bugs to another. "One of our colony is climbing up the lily stalk. Where do you think she is going?" Up, up, up it slowly went....Even
as they watched, the water bug disappeared from sight. Its friends waited and waited but it didn't return... "That's funny!" said one water bug to another. "Wasn't she happy here?" asked a second... "Where do you suppose she went?" wondered a third. No one had an answer. They were greatly puzzled. Finally one of the water bugs, a leader in the colony, gathered its friends together. "I have an idea". The next one
of us who climbs up the lily stalk must promise to come back and tell us where he or she went and why." "We promise", they said solemnly. One spring day, not long after, the very water bug who had suggested the plan found himself climbing up the lily stalk. Up, up, up, he went. Before he knew what
was happening, he had broke through the surface of the water and fallen onto the broad, green lily pad above. When he awoke, he looked about with surprise. He couldn't believe what he saw. A startling change had come to his old body. His movement revealed four silver
wings and a long tail. Even as he struggled, he felt an impulse to move his wings...The warmth of the sun soon dried the moisture from the new body. He moved his
wings again and suddenly found himself up above the water. He had become a dragonfly!! Swooping and dipping in great curves, he flew through the air. He felt exhilarated in the new atmosphere. By and by the new dragonfly lighted happily on a lily pad to
rest. Then it was that he chanced to look below to the bottom of the pond. Why, he was right above his old friends, the water bugs! There they were scurrying
around, just as he had been doing some time before. The dragonfly remembered the promise: "The next one of us who climbs up the lily stalk will come back and tell where he or she went and why." Without thinking,
the dragonfly darted down. Suddenly he hit the surface of the water and bounced away. Now that he was a dragonfly, he could no longer go into the water... "I can't return!" he said in dismay. "At least, I tried. But I can't keep my promise. Even if I could go back, not one of the water bugs would know me in my new
body. I guess I'll just have to wait until they become dragonflies too. Then they'll understand what has happened to me, and where I went." And the dragonfly winged off happily into its wonderful new world of sun and air.......

The day after mom's services, I took a pregnancy test. Guess what, it was positive. I was suppose to start the day after she died and I just wrote it off as stress.....instead it's a baby.
