Alexis Lee Dodson
Alexis was born on April 3, 2014. She weighed 7 lbs. 14 oz. and length was 21 inches. Daddy and I went into the hospital the afternoon of the 3rd about 11 o'clock. We originally were scheduled to be there at 7 o'clock in the morning but because there were so many deliveries that day, they asked us to come later. We got checked in about 12:30. One nurse had just been transferred to the Delivery room. She did not do a very good job of taking my blood, it was everywhere. Dr. Binford came and broke my water and that's when I started with contractions. I got my epidural soon after my water broke. While your dad and I waited your gramps surprised us at the hospital. I started to get nauseous so they gave me some medication for that. The medicine kicked in and not soon after we were getting ready for your arrival. At 4:55, Dr. Bindford came in the room. I pushed three times and we suddenly heard your scream at 5:01pm. Dr. Bindford announced that we had a baby girl. You were beautiful. We immediately called your sisters so they could be the first to know that they had a new little sister. You latched on immediately and have been so wonderful. What a blessing you are to us. You will never know the depth of our love for you! We love you and your sisters to the moon and back.
Headed into the hospital
At the school, Mrs. Zea put out the new baby flag for the girls!
August didn't like you(Alexis) screaming while they gave you a bath. She thought they were hurting you and so she started to cry.
The girls enjoyed entertaining us with some singing.
Alexis's first bath.
Kennedy's birthday celebration at Mel's and Alexis getting to meet the cousins.
A few days old, we had Caressa(Trey's friend from high school) who lives in New Braunfels take some pictures of Alexis. Despite the wet weather, she was able to capture some adorable photos of our sweet little one.
This is a memorial rose bush at the VFW with a plaque regarding mom. What a wonderful tribute to a woman who touched so many lives! I miss her daily.
August put some of the barbies on the fire screen. I didn't even need to ask who had done it.
We got to watch August demonstrate some of the activities she has been doing at school. So, proud of all the things she has learned and the pride she takes in her work.
Coffee grinding. Always have a fresh cup.
Animals of Asia
Pink Tower, how high can it go?
This was the second semester of Art.
First trip to the park.
Ready for some Easter Eggs!
August loved that when she got in the car there were some eggs hidden in there too.
At the lake the girls made a cross out of the marbles on the Wahoo game.
We went to Frank and Cindy's for Easter. Alexis got to meet her great grandfather.
Happy 7th birthday to our beautiful Kennedy! You are a wonderful friend and sister.
Look at these pretty girls! Baskets are full!
Look who came to visit the girls....the Easter Bunny!
I got him!
Watch out Auggie, dad's gonna get you!
I think these girls have had to much chocolate. Kennedy's teeth are falling out.
Ralph and Patty gave this bib to Alexis.
Kennedy and August went to a roller skate ring for Cory’s birthday. They were doing the limbo and Kennedy said she would do it. Keep in mind, Kennedy was using a walker to support her. Lucian looked at the and said “you’re going to do it?” she looked proudly at him like there was no limits and said “well, why not?”.
Trey and I attend Kennedy's birthday celebration at the school. She walked around the earth as Trey told stories about each year of her life. Then the children in the classroom went around and said one nice thing about the birthday person. Some of the comments she received were: Good citizen, pretty, she can read, and helps others. She chose Kennedy Roland to sit with us at lunch. Kennedy Roland told us how Kennedy thought one of the boys was cute in a recent play they saw. Our Kennedy said “What, he had cute dimples”. A cute little memory…Kennedy calls Little Caesar's , Little Carlos. So, now everyone in the family calls it this.
Mrs Zea had a celebration at her house for Kennedy too, I sent the cake. Giving mommy a nice sleep time with Alexis.
They made it! 50 miles from McMahan to Shiner. Trey, Eric, and Byron road together. We met up with the Putka's after the ride and enjoyed a tour of the brewery. Here the girls model their Shiner tattoos
August loved to get under the play mobile with Alexis
I had lunch with Tracy and Denise after a dr's apt so they could meet Alexis.
Does Trey look like he's about to fall asleep or does Alexis?
Melanie put makeup on the girls.
Melody and August play time.
Kennedy
told me for Mother's Day that I was the best mom she's ever had. On Mother's
Day, the girls gave me some art pieces that they had made at school. Trey gave
me some body lotion items from an Olive orchard store near Pleasanton. We
attended church together. While at church, Alexis needed to be fed so I left
church and sat in the car. I figured since I was missing church I would tune
into the catholic channel. Thinking of mom while feeding Lexie, a woman named
Donna calls in and asks the father a silly question. Her grandkids had asked
her if Adam and Eve had belly buttons. So I asked Lexi" you think that was
nana telling us she is with us on this Mother's Day?" Few minutes later a
commercial comes on about helping kids in Africa and the lady speaking said
this is Donna Gum asking for your support. I told Trey what are the odds of two
women named Donna on the air within five minutes of each other? Typing this, I
just remembered Goldie's middle name or maiden name was Gum. Maybe I'm just
missing her a lot :)
Graduation night, elementary Kennedy knew composers names and August sang along.
Kennedy was telling me Eric's parents were getting a divorce. She's asked if Trey and I were going to and I told her I hope not. That day at school she had learned about filling up each other's buckets with kindness. So she said maybe if you and dad fill each other buckets up that won't happen to you guys. And I told her yes that sometimes we might need to be reminded of that by her.
August had cried about going to school. The root of the problem was that she thought she was going to the big kid class. Once she realized that wasn't the case she stopped her tears. She walked in with Kennedy for her first day. Mrs Zea made her the class messenger so her and Beah walk notes to and from the lower elementary classroom. That evening she told me she didn't want to go to the little kid classroom either. The next night she said she didn't want to turn five because then she would have a learning list. I told her let’s not focus on the worries about the future let’s focus on what fun we have planned today. I explained the learning list is kind of like our chore chart at home. She also said she is quitting school. In 14 years, I hope we can say she graduated. She is so much like Trey and I in our younger years with not liking school. I cried everyday till about 2nd grade.
August’s speech teacher, Wendy, owns a store in downtown Lockhart that's really cute. Wendy came to the school the other day to do her speech assessment for August. After the class was over August told Mrs. Zea, I like Miss Wendy’s store, I don't like her.
July: We spent some time in Mathis for the fourth. On our way home August whispered in Kennedy’s ear “do you know I have a boyfriend? Harrison. “Then Kennedy asked about some others like Jackson and so on. Apparently Mrs. Zea said Jackson and August were holding hands on the playground. August is doing well at school; she doesn't like to work by herself.
Dad and Robin came down for the visit. Equal time for all three.
Dress up time for the kids. Connor shows his fashion.
Payton loving on Lexi.
The girls and I met at Melanie's house to go with her and Robin to watch Tyler ride his first bull. Although, he didn't stay on the full 8 seconds, it was a good laugh and he made it out o.k.
August found some treasures.
We went to Port Aransas for Rhonda and Adams wedding. It was a beautiful ceremony and Rhonda looked gorgeous as usual. Friday night Rhonda organized a crab hunt. It was so much fun watching the kids and adults running around looking for crabs. They had given each kid a bucket and some sand toys. While we were down there we rented a little golf cart and had fun driving that around. Sherri, Clifford, and their kids were also in Rockport so we went over there and went to the beach which was really nice because Port Aransas Beach was full of seaweed. Sherry and Kirk watched Alexis for us so that we could go to the beach and out one night with Kara and Wes. Kennedy and Allison had a little disagreement because Allison said she had the best mommy and Kennedy said “No, I have the best mommy.” Allison announces “Well, I'm going to tell my mommy you said your mommy was better than my mommy.” Kennedy started crying Allison started crying because she hurt Kennedy’s feelings. Trey said "no,I have the best mommy." Sherry was there. I was in the other room feeding Alexis so when I came out I told both the girls they were lucky that they had mommies that love them and we were lucky that the children love them so much Allison said yeah I have a friend in school had her daddy hit her mommy and now her mommy is gone away.
Jim had stopped by to visit with daddo. He sent us this picture of how good daddo looks.
Alexis's baptism dress came in.
Happy Father's Day~!
Progress being made on the walkway
Luling Watermelon Thump Parade.
August 2014
Mrs. Zea was having a Harry Potter movie watch party at her house. Kennedy and I made a few candle sticks out of food for the party along with witch brooms popcorn holder
Harry Potter Candle Sticks
The other night Kennedy and August were taking a bath and I hear August say please don't tell mommy. She thought she was going to get in trouble but I told her they could tell me what went on because they worked it out amongst themselves no one would get in trouble but I needed to know what happened. Kennedy smirked and said “August accidently peed on my face.” What? “Yes, she peed on my face.” “ What happened is I was laying back washing my hair and August laid down the opposite way and peed by accident”
August was scared of swimming so Mrs Zea
sent her to swim in the morning with Jackson and Melody. When I picked
her up I was concerned because she started to cry. Mrs Zea said she had a
great day swimming, even held hands with Jackson and jumped in the deep
in together.
Kennedy had Europe night at the school. She was Goldie lochs in the Goldie locks and The Three Bears play. Dad, Robin, and us attended and saw all the neat things Kennedy created. One of the poems in her poem book she said reminded her of Nana. See below:

Alexis was baptized. Randy and Jodi Palmer are her godparents. The church was very hot because the ac unit was working, but despite the heat the service was still nice. Lee caught some beautiful photos of the event. For entertainment, we rented an adult size water slide that we could all play on.
Lexus is five months old, she is still rolling over and has started to scoot with her legs not moving much . She will be crawling here soon. She had her first taste of rice cereal, it went o.k. I've started feeding her sweet potato to try to see if she likes that better than the cereal, who wouldn't.
Dad and I were taking a break from the hospital after visiting Papaw. Sending some love to the family.
Taking care of little sister.
Kennedy measuring the flour. She reminds me of Nanny Glover because she uses a knife to level it.
August did an awesome job peeling the pears for our pear cake.
John Velvin had a party at an arcade. The girls loved dancing to Just Dance on the big screen.
Trey and the girls came by the office and picked me up so we could go eat at Freddie's and meet Eric and Laquana. After eating we went on the bat tour. Very awesome experience.
Do you think this headband is to big for my head?
A box of had some Styrofoam in it so I let the girls play with it. Needless to say, we are still finding it under the coach.
Love those cheeks!
Alexis rolling over!
Fun at Honey and Papa's.
Girls love swimming at Aunt Rita and Uncle Philip's.
Kennedy attend TBAR M Camp in July. Carley and her were in the same group. What a fabulous camp. She says she wants to do the overnight camp this next year. They had different theme days. Kennedy is an Alpha. They have competitions with the Omega's, who wear blue.
Our walkway and fire pit are officially complete. We had some friends over to make some smores in it. We apparently had to much wood in it and part of the top cracked. Jauqe came back out later and fixed it for us. We learned our lesson.

August: Kennedy's and August head back to school.
Our annual trip to the Frio

My toes taste good.
The next member of the Mickey Mouse Club.
Now for the grapes to grow.....
Trey and I worked out at Cota on Halloween. I made him this pumpkin birthday cake that we ate when we got home.
Our little Skelton.

We went to visit Tyler at the Boys Ranch near San Angelo. They
had a nice apartment we could stay in for free. They were having an old car
show at the ranch so we were able to get some pictures in them. We went into
San Angelo and had a nice time playing at the city park and eating at Mr.
Gattis so the kids could play and we could watch the aggie game.
Eating is always fun with your hands.
Dad and Robin went to see her folks over Thanksgiving. I
told dad that we would check in on Papaw to make sure he was doing o.k at the
rest home. Melanie, Landry and I went to visit and he spoke to me as if I was
his sister Aunt Alice. He asked if I had taken the train. He also told Melanie with a sweet smile and
holding her hand “you take some of papaw’s money and go get a hair cut”. Mel
and I chuckled and couldn’t wait to tell dad. All the people in the nursing
home love Papaw. They say he is such a sweet man, I’d have to agree.
Trey had his 20th high school reunion in Pleasanton. We went and ate a restaurant and then went to a football game Friday night. Saturday, Trey went to a hall and visited with his old classmates, he later met up with me at Rhonda's celebration.
Celebrating Rhonda turning 40! They rented a party bus from their house to Gruene.
Sweet sleeping baby.
Sherry had a party for one of the girls. Look at this great canoe she made.
The AFD was at our building during one of our fire safety runs. Tracy, Tiff, and I are our floor fire monitors that make sure everyone leaves on our floor.

August
measured 45 3/4 inches tall and weighed
47 lbs at her dr apt . She is looking intent at school.

Kennedy went with the Zea's to Galveston. She had a great time and found her first whole sand dollar.
Thanksgiving: Aimee and the kids came by and we ate dinner Wednesday night with them and Sherry /Kirk. Thanksgiving Day, We went to Temple had lunch with Aunt Edith, Uncle Bill, Steven and the kids. We went by and saw Daddo and visited with Papaw too. We stayed at Papaws house and rolled pecans.
The family went to cheer Randy's Palmer team on in one of the playoff games in Buda. Despite the cold, we had a good time.
Mr. Elf on the shelf is back. Also using the north pole telecommunicator to talk to the north pole every day the kids are loving it. When using the telecommunicator Kennedy told Santa she wished that her parents would never grow old and always stay young.
December: Alexis took her first step Dec 21. I tried catching it on video but she would never do it again. When Alexis gets her diaper change she just smiles at the Dr Seuss pictures on the wall.
I truly believe time passes quickly as you get older, maybe it's actually when you have children. Every day I see photos of the girls and amazed what beautiful young ladies they are becoming.
Curly brought in a dead bird through the doggie door. I wasn’t to thrilled to pick it up, so I asked August if she would. She said “oh yes, I'll pick it up so I can love on it. “ I quickly told myself to suck it up and be a good mother. I picked it up with a dustpan and disposed of it.
Kennedy had her North America night she's sang lantana and Felix naveda. They read about the history of the poinsettia. She made a worry doll for the family and suggested we make them for everyone in the family. Especially those that are sick so they don't have to worry about their sickness.
Beah and Lucian came over to play.

At the end of the war, while stationed in Oakland, California, John met Marilyn LeRoy on a blind date and was married 6 months later in Seguin, Texas. John obtained his Bachelor of Science in Education and Masters in Educational Administration from Southwest Texas State University. He taught and coached at La Grange High school in 1950-1951 before moving to Liberty, New York from 1951 to 1953 where he taught prisoners at the Woodbourne Correctional Facility during the day and parked cars for sports and show biz celebrities at the Grossingers' Catskill Resort Hotel during the evenings. In 1954, he moved his family back to Texas where he began his eighteen year teaching and coaching job at Academy High School. After 18 successful years of teaching and coaching at Academy High he worked for the Temple School District in several roles for two years, county counselor for small schools for one year, Rogers High Principal for 4 years and Academy High Principal for four years at the end of which he retired in 1982. In 1993, the football stadium was name in his honor and rededicated in his honor in 2013. He spent his retirement "piddling" around his eleven acre homestead and traveling with his wife and friends.
If you met John Glover and wanted to visit for just a few minutes you made sure you stayed away from the subjects of sports, history or politics or you would be there for a much longer period of time. His gift was seeing the positive in a person and getting that person to find a way to see it too. He did not allow you to hide from the truth, but encouraged you to embrace it and develop a plan to move on from there. He loved the game of football because it was a team sport that allowed boys to become men and accomplish goals not possible as individuals.
Mr. Glover is preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Leroy Glover. John has a daughter, Pamela Glover, a son, William Glover and his wife, Robin, another son, Robert Glover along with a sister, Alice Adcock and a sister-in-law Vickie Underwood. Mr. Glover has two granddaughters, Melanie Hoy and her husband, Lee and Kimberly Dodson and her husband, Trey along with three great-grandsons: Tyler Poehl, Landry Clayton, Joseph Clayton and three great-granddaughters: Kennedy, Augusta and Alexis Dodson.

Part of a news article that was in the Temple News in 2013....I couldn't get the full thing but thought the beginning summed Papa up and the legacy he left in Little River. Although he may not get around as nimbly as he used to, John Glover is still very much a presence around Little River-Academy and Bumblebee sporting events.
His name remains synonymous with the peak excellence of Academy football. It’s been 20 years since Bumblebee Stadium was renamed John Glover Stadium to honor the winningest and longest-tenured head football coach the school has ever known. It’s been 41 years since he last coached a football game. Almost 60 years have come and gone since he coached his first one.
Here is a picture of the stadium. I still remember the driving down my Freshman year of college to attend the dedication. Nanny and him had no idea that they were being honored in this way.
After the funeral, we went to the high school and meet with people that loved him.
Sherry and Kirk watched Alexis at Papawa's house so we could visit.
Merry Christmas from Mr. Elf on the Shelf
